Welcome to the department of
Design & Creative Media at LYIT
We offer an exciting range of courses from Higher Certificate through Ordinary and Honours level Degrees right up to MA level. Our degree courses will equip you with the skills and experience necessary for a fulfilling career in Creative Media. Career paths include the publishing, web, games, video, photography and fashion industries. In fact, any industry which requires visual content and design, is a potential employer.
We are delighted to announce two new courses starting in September 2017.
The first is the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Design with name award options (4 years in duration) —
- BA (Hons) in Design — Animation,
- BA (Hons) in Design — Digital Film & Video,
- BA (Hons) in Design — Graphic & Digital Design
- BA (Hons) in Design — Fashion with Promotion
The second is a BA in Digital Film & Video which is three years in duration.
We would like to congratulate 2017 Animation graduate Paul Kelly on getting his film "Begging for Change" shortlisted in the Best student/graduate category in the Dublin Animation Film Festival.

Our annual student Graduation Show is now running from the 1st — 8th June. The show features the final project from students graduating in Visual Communications (Graphic Design), Digital Media Design, Animation and from post-graduate students in 3D Modelling adn Animation.
There is also a selection of 2nd year work from the Fashion with Promotion Degree on display.
The exhibition was officially opened by Aideen Doherty to a large, enthusiastic audience.
The show will remain open to the public until the 8th June.
DICE Conference 2017
We are proud to be hosting our third annual DICE conference at LYIT, featuring national and international speakers. DICE aims to spark a discussion on the value of creativity and design to both business and society. This is a one day event, running on Wednesday 6th April.

Open Day 2016 - Passport Competition winner
We had a very successful Open Day on Nov 25th, when hundreds of Transition and Leaving Cert students visited the Institute and got to see what we do in some detail. On show were examples of student work in Animation, Visual Communications (Graphic Design), Fashion, Digital Media and 3D Modelling & Animation. Also running were demonstrations of VR (Virtual reality) and AR (Augmented reality).
Congratulations to Niamh Boyle from the Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town, winner of the Amazon Fire Tablet in our Passport to Design competition.
New Springboard HDip in 3D Modelling & Animation
As of September 2016 we offer a one year Higher Diploma in 3D Modelling and animation, an area which has shown particularly high growth in recent years. This HDip is offered under the Springboard programme. Further details can be found here.
Digital Media Award
Congratulations to Mike Guckian who has just won the Best Public Life award at the Accenture Digital Media Awards 2016.
Mike created a Virtual Trad Orchestra in association with the Hawk's Well Theatre as his major project for our MA in Motion Graphics.
